Obituary for Sharon Rose Casey

Sharon Rose Casey 02.21.56 - 01.14.18

Wife - Mother - Grandmother - Sister - Friend

“When I die and they lay me to rest

Gonna go to the place that's the best

When I lay me down to die

Goin' up to the spirit in the sky

Goin' up to the spirit in the sky

That's where I'm gonna go when I die

When I die and they lay me to rest

Gonna go to the place that's the best”

Sharon was a believer in love – of all kinds. She loved animals, especially dogs, and especially ones that were rescued or to be put down. She loved blasting loud music and dancing shamelessly, in ways that embarrassed her daughters when they were younger, her arms flailing with passion out the car windows and sunroof to her favorite songs. She loved wearing very dark plastic-framed sunglasses, drinking lots of coffee all throughout the day, and sleeping in late. She never wanted for much, and was always the first to give away anything she had. She strutted around in gowns and dresses, oftentimes found proudly from a good deal at Goodwill or thrift stores. Even when she didn’t have a penny to her name, she would get crafty and make gifts, or find some way to give something to another. She was an advocate for wild, weird, and unorthodox, and led by example in coloring outside the lines and being an individual. She was always herself, freely, without care of judgment. She lived her life fully, with abandon, making people laugh with some outrageous comment. She taught those around her to be strong, accepting, compassionate and understanding. She was truly one of a kind.

She was aided in the journey to the afterlife by her oldest daughter, Jessica Del Priore. Her spirit lives on in her beloved husband, John Casey; her daughters, Liz and Katie Casey; her grandchildren, Elora Niederpruem, Willow and Violet Casey; her brother, David Melcher; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ellen and Jimmy Casey; and her dear friend, Jeff Lynn.

In memory of Sharon, we ask that you exude love to those around you, forgive those who are struggling through a difficult time, and give - give to the homeless, give to others who need an extra dose of love in this life.
