Obituary for Kenneth S. Oliver

Ken found peace on October 23, 2017, winding down 75 years of hard work, travel and an endless pursuit of the perfect landscape.

Born to Stearl and Burma Oliver in 1942, he spent most of his formative years in Clinton, North Carolina with his younger sister Joyce Braswell.

Professionally, he hit the ground running in elementary school managing his own paper route and held various jobs until graduating East Carolina University in 1964. He then accepted a position with Sears Roebuck and Co, ascending from an entry-level manager position to become the youngest Sears store manager in the Southeast.

In 1981, he had his second and most satisfying calling—to Chick-Fil-A, Inc. where he spent the remaining 26 years of his career as owner/operator of two mall stores, a free-standing unit, and as a consultant for IT training at Chick-fil-A headquarters opening stores across the country.

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 53 years, and international tour guide, Donna Ann Bingham as well as his children—Warren “Bing” Oliver who followed in his ambitious Chick-fil-A footsteps and Air Force Colonel Maureen Harback who defended his freedom.

He also leaves behind two handsome grandsons and one beautiful granddaughter he singlehandedly spoiled by showering them with the admiration and attention of Hollywood A-listers. Not far behind was his silky terrier, Emma who he lavished with rotisserie chicken and cheese sticks.

He was a connoisseur of Kenmore vacuum cleaners, fine clothing, domestic beers, Peter Pan peanut butter and Ritz crackers.

His talents included watching jets fly the open skies while driving, baking a killer pan of cornbread, keeping a house and vehicle cleaner than your local hospital, and a yard manicured like a Southern Living centerfold.

His family is comforted knowing he now resides where there is the freshest pine straw with the least amount of “junk” and can finally rest on his laurels.

His family will hold a private service then celebrate his life with family and friends at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Caregivers’ Ministry – Due West United Methodist Church at Due West United Methodist Church, 3956 Due West Road, Marietta, GA 30064 or to your own church dementia caregiver ministry.
