Obituary for Marian Dabney

Marian Elizabeth Dabney, of Smyrna, passed away on Monday, August 6, 2018. She was 73. Marian was born on August 6, 1945 in Atlanta to Frank (Ham) and Rachel Dabney. She was a member of The Cathedral of St. Philips church in Atlanta.
She grew up in Smyrna and attended Campbell High School. She also obtained a Bachelor's Degree from Georgia State, Master’s Degree from Bradley University, and PHD in Psychology from the University of Alabama. For the bulk of her career she worked as a researcher for the Department of Education at the State of Georgia, developing curriculum for school testing.
Marian's passions included playing the piano, classical music, British history, and her cats (mostly rescues). She also enjoyed spending time in Seattle with her daughter and family, which is where she once lived. She is survived by her daughter, Denise Lafnitzegger; son-in-law, Eric Lafnitzegger; grandchildren, Alex and Dodge Lafnitzegger; as well as cats Shadowfax, Pearl, Pouncie, and Cinnamon. In lieu of flowers the family request contributions be made to the Huntington's Society of America hdsa.org or Good Mews animal foundation at goodmews.org A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 11th at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Carmichael’s in Smyrna. Visitation is prior to the service from 10 to 11:00 AM.
