Obituary for Dorothy Jean Siera

Jean was born in Sevierville, Tennessee in Dr. Broady’s two-room hospital. She grew up in Gatlinburg and lived there until she was 18. Her family included her mother, Mary Marie Moore McCarter, stepfather Ashley McCarter, sister Annette Carter, stepbrothers Danny (Betty) and Larry, also her uncles Pershing, English, and Bill, Aunts Nina, Gertrude, and Elizabeth along with many cousins. They were a close-knit family and were all good folks.
She attended Banner elementary school in a one-room schoolhouse and, Pi Beta Phi Junior High and Senior High Schools where she graduated in 1961. While in high school, she met and had her first date with Jim Siera on February 19, 1960. They dated continuously for two years and were married on the 2nd anniversary of their first date, February 19, 1962.
In May of 1962, both joined the FBI as file clerks. Two years later they transferred to the Jackson, MS. office for a year. They then moved back to D.C. where Jean continued to work for the FBI while Jim finished his education.
In 1968 they decided they had enjoyed all of D.C. they wanted and moved to Marietta and then Smyrna, GA. Jean became a housewife and later a mother. Daughter Jeanne was born in 1971 and son Jim in 1973. Jeanne graduated from Berry College and UGA Veterinary School. She practiced as a veterinarian for 18 years and chose to change careers and now teaches science courses in a private high school. Jim was killed by a drunk driver at the age of 21. He was a pilot, attended Auburn University and Kennesaw State College where he was near graduation.
Jean went back to work for the FBI in Atlanta. She had a successful career, becoming an investigative analyst and was well respected and accomplished professionally, and made many friends there. She retired in 2002.
Jean and Jim moved to Dallas, GA to live in the country on a few acres for the last 22 years. They have many friends there. They have always kept in touch with their families and friends in the Great Smoky Mountains and frequently spent time there.
Jean is preceded in death by her stepfather, Ashley McCarter, sister Annette Carter, and son Jim Siera. She is survived by her mother, Mary McCarter, husband Jim Siera, stepbrothers Danny McCarter and wife Betty, and Larry McCarter, and daughter Jeanne McCumpsey and husband Kyle.
