Obituary for Mickey Satterfield

Mickey Satterfield died on Friday October 27th, 2017 after a courageous 11-year battle with cancer at her home in West Cobb County, Georgia. She was 66 years old.

Mickey’s family invites family and friends to attend a memorial service in her honor on Tuesday, October 31st at 11:00 AM at Burnt Hickory Baptist Church (5145 Due West Road, Powder Springs), followed by a grave side service at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park. Mrs. Satterfield will lie in state at the Church where the family will receive friends and relatives one hour prior, beginning at 10:00 AM that Tuesday morning. Pastor Mike Stephens will officiate.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years Mike Satterfield, her son, Buddy Satterfield (Somer) and her Grandson, Michael Satterfield. Mickey leaves behind her brother, Dennis Wills (Kathy) and sister, Linda Coutu (Joe), and many extended family and close friends.

Mickey started her career as a Real Estate agent for Northside Realty along with one of her best friends and neighbor, Gloria Albritton. She then helped run a family buisness with her husband and son in 2001.

Mrs. Satterfield was born on July 6th, 1951 in Gulfport Mississippi. She was extremely fond of her Mother and Father, William (Buddy) Angus Wills and Edna Wills and was by their side daily toward the end of their life, helping take care of each of them.

Mickey met her husband Mike in typing class at Wills High School in Smyrna, Georgia, and they became inseparable from the young age of 15 years old. They were married at the age of 19 and have been beside each other, enjoying life every day since. Among countless others, they enjoyed participating in a Corvette club they helped found, building their home in West Cobb as well as a cabin on the Hiawassee River…hand in hand. Later in life she enjoyed re-building a cabin on Lake Burton with her family. Being very athletic, she was an excellent water and snow skier, softball player, golfer, and she loved riding her Harley.

Like her mother and father, Mickey enjoyed playing cards and was always a threat to the dealer at any blackjack table. Her sense of humor and dry wit was unlike any other and was always looking for an opportunity to make someone laugh.
She had a strong servant heart and was always welcoming friends and family to her home for get-togethers and special occasions including the annual Idle Spurs Easter egg hunt.

Later in life she would take enormous pleasure spending time with her new found daughter, Somer, and especially her Grandson Michael who had a bond like no other. Loving the outdoors, she taught Michael how to fish, attended every school, sports and Cub Scout event with him, but mostly loved on him daily. Most days after school Michael would be found crossing the “donkey bridge” to see his Mimi & PawPaw.

Shortly before her death, she was lead to Christ and asked to be baptized. While too weak to do it at Church, her family and friends attended this very special event at her home with Pastor Mike.

Mickey will be missed by all that loved and knew her. She was an amazing friend, outstanding wife, and a perfect Mother.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mickey’s memory her grandson Michael’s school, Mount Paran Christian School, Capitol Campaign.
