Obituary for Marilynn Edmonds Paris

Marilynn Edmonds Paris, 90, born on February 7, 1927 in Dacula, Georgia, passed away on May 24, 2017. She attended Winder High School and North Georgia College, and received her Master's Degree in Education from Georgia State University. For most of her adult life she lived in Smyrna and Marietta. Marilynn had an outstanding career as an educator, and was loved and respected by her students and colleagues. She taught at Smyrna Elementary, Griffin Middle, and Brumby Elementary, and was named Teacher of the Year on multiple occasions. She served as a wonderful mentor, tutored many students, and took great joy in their progress. Her outstanding career in education was her true passion. Marilynn was an active member of Alpha Delta Kappa, a professional sorority focused on educational excellence, altruism, and fellowship. Marilynn's faith in God and her commitment to the church were paramount in her life. A longtime member of Smyrna First United Methodist Church, she taught Sunday School and was an active volunteer. Marilynn was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Emory Duane Paris, who passed away in 2008. She is survived by son Michael Emory Paris and his wife Kim, daughter Nancy Caroline Paris Simpson and her husband Wayne, and son Samuel Edmonds Paris and his wife Jennifer. "Maro" is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: grandson Matt and his fiancé Lauren Howard, granddaughter Caroline and her husband Andy Paczkowski, and granddaughters Emily and Ryan. Marilynn loved to travel with her husband Duane, and the two traversed the globe on many exciting trips. She loved to play golf with him, and would hit the links locally and in the mountains on their way to Hemlock Inn. They truly enjoyed their home at Lake Chatuge and loved sharing it with family and friends. Marilynn loved her children and grandchildren deeply, and was always the first to offer support, congratulations and unconditional love. She would always tell them how proud she was of them. A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, June 4th at 3 p.m. at Smyrna First United Methodist Church at 1315 Concord Road, Smyrna, Georgia 30080. The family will receive guests at a reception afterward in the Fellowship Hall.
