Obituary for James Marcellus Hamby

Mr. James Marcellus Hamby, age 89 of Smyrna, passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2018. A memorial reception will be held from 4-6 pm Sunday, July 29, 2018 in the Family Celebration Center at the Carmichael Funeral Home in Smyrna. A lifelong resident of Smyrna, Mr. Hamby served and retired from the US Army Reserves and the GA National Guard with over 30 years in the heavy equipment maintenance/service and supply company. He enjoyed old cars and at one time owned an airplane with some of his friends. He was an aircraft enthusiast and enjoyed building and flying remote controlled airplanes. Mr. Hamby was a member of the Smyrna volunteer fire department, the American Legion post #160, and was a member and past governor of the Smyrna Oakdale Moose Lodge. Mr. Hamby was preceded in death by his daughter Frances Elizabeth Hamby Moore and his 2 brothers David A. Hamby, Jr. and Judson Augustus Hamby. Surviving are his loving wife Helen Elizabeth “Betty” Waldron Hamby, daughter Marsha Hamby (Haywood) Savage, grandchildren Elizabeth Ashley Bacon Mize and Max Tyler Bacon, great-grandchildren Abigail “Abby” Mize, Harrison Bacon, Tripp Bacon, and Claudia Bacon.
