Obituary for George Garger

George Garger, age 87, of Smyrna, Georgia died on Thursday, June 29, 2017. Mr. Garger was born on March 18, 1930 in Bayside New York and served in the US Air Force from 1950 until 1954. Following his service, he worked for Lockheed in New York from 1954 to 1956, Pan AM as a Flight Engineer from 1956 until 1959, and then worked as a Flight Engineer for Lockheed until his retirement in 1992. His son, George Patrick Garger, precedes him in death in 2007. In 1959, Mr. Garger married his loving wife, Katherine McGrath Garger, who survives him. Other survivors are children, Mary (Chris) Wegner of Kennesaw, Carol Schwinne of Peachtree City, Jean (Michael) Jones of Grayson, Joseph (Cathy) Garger of Sharpsburg; sister, Margaret Ast of Cambridge, New York; grandchildren, Stephen, Kristina, Allison, Erin, Nicholas, Megan, Mary Katherine, Lauren, Danielle, Andrew; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church on Monday, July 3, 2017 at Noon with Father Brian Sheridan and The Very Reverend Richard Morrow officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday, July 2 at Carmichael Funeral Home in Smyrna from 2 PM until 4 PM and 6 PM until 8 PM, with a Rosary service at 7:30 PM.
