Dr. Frank Espinoza, age 88, of Marietta, passed away peacefully at his home, Friday, March 31 after a long battle with cancer. Dr. Frank was born on October 29, 1928 in Jauja, Peru. He dedicated his life to surgery and to his patients. After Dr. Espinoza graduated from San Marcos Medical School in Lima Peru in 1956 he began practicing cardiovascular surgery and then in 1960 he traveled to Kansas where he received a US Medicine and Surgery license. In 1965, Dr. Frank moved to Georgia to work at St. Joseph’s Infirmary in Atlanta. In future years, he performed surgery in West Paces Ferry, St. Joseph, Northside, and Cobb General hospitals. Dr. Espinoza also established a private surgical and family medicine practice where he settled into the local Marietta community to practice medicine for over 50 years and served as the Osborne Cardinals’ football team doctor for more than 35 years. Surgery was Dr. Espinoza’s true passion in life, he received many awards and distinctions over the years, a few that he was proudest of include when he served on President Truman’s surgical team, when he was accepted into the American and International Colleges of Surgeons and when he was given the award of Honorary surgeon for the queen of England. Dr. Espinoza enjoyed world travel and trying exotic foods. He loved sports cars and animals, especially his dogs, Bozo, Carita, Foxy, Musky, Max, and Gus. He had an enthusiastic passion for many sports, but would get so excited that he could not stand to watch the end of any game. His enthusiasm showed the time his “brother,” Jay had to rescue him when the authorities came after he jumped on the ice to save one of “his players,” at a local hockey game. A memorial service will be held 3 pm Saturday, April 8 in the chapel of Carmichael Funeral Home in Smyrna,. Father R. Morrow will officiate the ceremony.
