Obituary for Dean Clarence Wilkins

Dean Wilkins, age 84, of Smyrna passed away at home on Saturday, July 22, 2017. He was born in Atlanta on April 4, 1933 to Thomas Herman and Annie Louise Wilkins, his parents and siblings all preceded him in death. He graduated from West Fulton High School and later served in the U.S. Army for 8 years fighting in the Korean War, and was awarded The Purple Heart and other military medals and was a disabled veteran. Dean was a member of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, Local 193 for 47 years. He was originally a painter and paper hanger for many years and also served as the Union Business Agent from 1983-1985. He was affiliated with the Masons and Shriners for many years. Over the years he enjoyed playing golf with his many friends, fishing trips and watching the home team Atlanta Braves and Atlanta Falcons. Surviving Mr. Wilkins are his wife of 31 years, Joan Wilkins, whom he had known since the 3rd grade, Stepson, Michael Bell of Smyrna, 2 grandchildren Christopher Bell of Buford and Andrea Lassiter of Smyrna, and 2 great-grandchildren, Ella Lassiter and Cash Lassiter. The funeral service will be held at 11 A.M., Thursday, July 27, 2017 in the Chapel of Carmichael Funeral Home in Smyrna with Chaplin Sherman Bruce officiating. A graveside service will follow at Georgia Memorial Park with Military honors and Masonic Rites. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 from 5 P.M. until 7 P. M. at Carmichael Funeral Home, 2950 King Street, Smyrna, Georgia.
